Manuel Pellegrini is 72 years old and tonight he just sent Real Betis to the Champions League.
I need you to understand what that means.

This man spent years grinding in South America while European football ignored him completely. Villarreal finally took a chance on him in 2004 and he took them to a Champions League semi-final out of nowhere.

Real Madrid came calling. He wins 96 points a club record at that time. Still got sacked because Mourinho was available. Didn't even get a proper goodbye.

So he goes to Málaga. A small club with zero history in Europe. Takes them to the Champions League quarter-finals. Then goes to Man City and wins them the Premier League. Then he had a bad spell at West Ham and left after 18 months.

At this point the man is nearly 70. Most people had written him off. I think some of you had too.

He joins Real Betis in 2020. Seventeen years without a trophy. He wins them the Copa del Rey in his second season. Reaches a European final in 2025. And tonight the whole stadium stood up and gave him a standing ovation as he put them in the Champions League for the first time in 21 years.

Four Spanish clubs. Four Champions League qualifications. Nobody in history has done that.
