You can reasonably argue they should have moved sooner. You cannot reasonably argue they still aren’t moving, and at pace.

European NATO allies and Canada increased defence expenditure 20% in real terms in a single year in 2025, to about $574bn. Every ally met the old 2% benchmark. NATO says Europe and Canada are already around 4%

Romania and NATO aircraft are now shooting down drones entering Romanian airspace. NATO has upgraded Baltic Air Policing into an air defence mission.
