@hankgreen They are owned by wealthy investors and may never see a tenant at all. While billionaires row isn't exactly ideal for the poor and impoverished, its existence is a literal waste of space. Nothing more than a way for the wealthy to temporarily park their riches.
@hankgreen I believe there is a bit of miscommunication happening around the vacant homes "discourse." There are tons of square footage of housing units, particularly in large cities that sit empty all year round. Legally they are not "vacant" because they aren't ever listed on the market.
@inthesaltcity It's almost as if landlords like students because their temporary nature makes it easy to prey on them, and with rent coming from tomorrow's money it's easy to overcharge.
@inthesaltcity Wild that students are having a hard time finding affordable house what with all of the student only apartment buildings going up and all of the houses that when you call the landlords, they only want students.
