and don't get me wrong, it also caused my psychic damage to see it.
but there will be a week of high profile hand-wringing about how awful it was to engage with this post. and there will be worthless Discourse about it for two weeks after that
the thing that I think is cool and useful about the online left is that the dumbest, low-effort, vile shit take like this can absolutely destroy the space for days, weeks, months (/s it is not cool or useful it is dumb)
@Yuri_Serafini@renegadecut imo it's generally bad form to engage with the folks pushing this kind of shitty discourse by meeting them at their level
the entire premise is bunk, but arguing on their terms can unintentionally legitimize it
@Sprocketguys@SurAuvers@tacticalfiend checking in on this, couldn't help but notice someone replied and then immediately blocked me. just in case there was any doubt that y'all are the most spineless, weak freaks on Earth
@Sprocketguys@SurAuvers@tacticalfiend this tiny-dick response from a guy who tweets 23 times a day (many of them retweeting nazi accounts just as terminally online you, brains with just as many holes as yours) is hilarious. did you take 3 drafts of this sweaty ass retort? my phone screen greasy from displaying it
@erikperhs_ @Strange_Nerd_@WereInHellYT white dudes on the internet really do tend to state their opinion as objective reality, huh? "i don't like this" becomes "this is not good"
@AuntieTelly@Potatopolitics there's a common misunderstanding that bigoted/harmful/reactionary positions are held by people who simply haven't heard the correct counterargument. and that notion really doesn't hold water.
someone committing to "use their platform to change minds" doesn't add up to much
@tarantuladad @tara_chara @SAMOYEDWAVE the kind of person who self-identifies as having "lived in delusions"
they didn't ask for pity, but fuck that line breaks my heart
.. but placing money above any moral standards for people you associate yourself (and your business, even) with is a bad look. at least for me
makes me wonder how bad it would have to be for Rocco/Mega64 to unflinchingly disavow someone
from a long time (and continued) Mega64 fan, Rocco doing this weird apologetic gesture towards Tommy Tallarico at the end of the latest podcast was really annoying. it's become a solid pattern for Mega64 as a business entity when someone they've worked with gets outed as shitty
what it really comes down to, in my view, is money & business interests. if a significant portion of your business relies on these longstanding industry connections, you can't exactly afford to damage any of them
@FriendlyOrendi@AnarchoCorvidae Instead of trying to defeat me in the marketplace of ideas, consider listening & learning from different perspectives & why people think differently than you. I definitely did here.
@FriendlyOrendi@AnarchoCorvidae I'm not really interested in a debate about the effect of doomerism on leftist spaces online and offline. I've seen its consequences firsthand on several occasions. I'm not sure who you're educating here, either. The referenced person has already weighed in.
@remembrancermx@AnarchoCorvidae (so much so that it became a community guideline to be mindful of how lax use of phrases like "never change" can cause those prone to it to spiral into depression/ideation. it's demonstrably harmful)
@remembrancermx@AnarchoCorvidae I'm glad for that, even if I think it's pretty reasonable for me to read it how I did. Even without the connection, I stand by what I said.
I have experience in OTG activist communities that have been significantly affected by doomerism poisoning the space.
