SHE DID IT AGAIN!

Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, is back with a new partner and just laid yet another egg.

At an approximate age of 74, the queen of seabirds returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge last week and began interacting with a male.

This evening HPAI (bird flu) strain H5N5 has been confirmed from 5 of our fulmars collected at Druridge Bay (25 Sept) and from a further 3 collected at Seaton Sluice (28 Sept). A sad picture is emerging. This is the likely cause for the whole incident. So many fulmars affected.

Long day in the rain last week- carried out #CSIOfTheSea exams on four adult grey seals in Scarborough with my CSIP colleague @Perkins16Matt. Numerous adult greys reported in North Yorks over the last week or two, not clear yet whether any common factors- more work to follow!
