I can't believe I'm witnessing someone argue that Nigerian women taking their husbands' surnames somehow makes them members of their husbands' ethnic groups, all to counter a Yorùbá woman saying that marrying a Yorùbá man doesn't make you a Yorùbá woman.
This is cultural suicide.
Yorùbá women are dragging Yorùbá men for conducting Yorùbá rites for non-Yorùbá brides, you turned it into they said they shouldn't marry outside Yorùbá.
Look outside, there's more to life than desiring Yorùbá men to the extent of doing this nonsense you just did.
why are some yoruba women on here crying because yoruba men are marrying outside their tribe?? get the fuck over that tribal entitlement bullshit. nobody owes you marriage within your tribe.
Did anyone consider that presenting this candidate could lead to Igbo overrepresentation and Yoruba underrepresentation, all in the name of “competency”?
This is one of the important questions to ask before making some decisions regarding ethnic representation.
"The Igbo candidate we chose is nowhere to be found. Once he arrived in Abuja, he said we are nothing. He even called us the Yorubas in his constituency a minority. That alone is humiliating. It is quite shameful, and we have all now seen that he does not deserve our support. We will participate massively in the coming elections. We must convince our children, who seem indifferent to the election, to come out and vote. As they vote for Hon. Ladi, they should also vote for Obe for the House of Representatives, Adebule for Senate, Hamzat for Governor of Lagos, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for President."
- Osolo HRM Oba Issa Abiodun Faronbi-Shekoni
That is what is unique about Chinese civilization and culture. As opposed to Yoruba people that will choose tolerate and dine with people who express contempt for them for their selfish interest without any ethnic dignity even when the said people are dependent on them.
So, I have a couple of questions about this “sexually transmitted ethnic identity.”
What happens when you divorce? Do you stop belonging to the ethnic group, or do you become mixed? How exactly does this “sexually transmitted ethnic identity” work?
Also, does this apply only to non-Yorùbá wives of Yorùbá men, or does it extend to non-Yorùbá husbands of Yorùbá women?
If it doesn’t work both ways, does that mean Yorùbá men possess some special ability to sexually transmit Yorùbá identity that Yorùbá women lack?
All of the people supporting the unprecedented claim that non-Yorùbá women become Yorùbá through marriage fall into three categories: Yorùbá men, people whose mother aren't Yorùbá, and non-Yorùbá themselves. Again, Yorùbá men are always supporting the displacement of Yorùbá women
I can't believe colourist statements once pushed me to think that lightening my skin would make my life better. Nothing I used worked. My darkness was just glowing.

The day I was called Adumaradan by an elder changed the entire trajectory of my life and how I saw myself.
@nezzylina I'm against any form of cultural homogenisation for Africa. Countries in other continents don't need to adopt a popular culture for them to be seen as a cohesive group, why should Africa be different?
This adoption will strip off origin and also create tension with inventors.
Must everything be copied?
What troubles me isn't only the borrowing. It's what's being lost on both sides. Every culture has their own rich traditions and their own ways of leading a wedding ceremony.
Each time you swap something out, you are erasing your culture with your own hands. From Gèlè to ìpèlé, abẹ̀bẹ̀, irùkẹ̀rẹ̀, now Alága and Ìdọ̀bálẹ̀. Where does it really end?
And instead of crediting the source, the next step is always co-ownership. “We call it this in our own language, you didn’t invent MC”.
In another generation, these wedding videos will be held up as proof by your children claiming you’ve never been to Lagos.
Putting this out now that Alága is a Yorùbá institution and practice. The Alága Ìdúró and Alága Ìjókòó guide the ceremony in our language, proverbs and protocol. It isn't a generic wedding MC role. We don’t want to hear stories later. Thanks.
Ask the father and Uncle what Primary, Secondary and University Tolu went to, how much they contributed to him growing up and it’s going to be crickets.
