The underground city of Derinkuyu, Cappadocia, Türkiye.

It had the capacity to house up to 20,000 people, and included stables, kitchens, and wine cellars. Its natural ventilation system consisted of more than 50 shafts connecting the lower levels to the surface. Taking advantage of differences in temperature and air pressure, it created a chimney effect. The design allowed for the continuous circulation of fresh air and the removal of stale air, without the need for electricity. Furthermore, the shafts were discreet and, in some cases, also served as water sources, ensuring safety and survival for the inhabitants who, for some unknown reason, needed to hide.
