@PatristicNectar I might 'tweak' this a bit to say 'discipline' since self denial has a punishment connotation in today's usage. It is clearly about "Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow" CHRIST. I meet too many who think self punishment rather than self discipline.

Salvation is a gift from God. True. How you receive the gift determines if you love the gift. True. If you are not prepared to receive His gift, salvation might become your torment. The difference between heaven and hell isn’t the gift. It’s the receipt.
