I have lived in Haiti for 3 years. Their language has a lot of similarities with Igbo. In the Republic of Haiti (French Caribbean), there's a national religio-cultural festival celebrated annually known as IBO LOA.
This is in honour of the Igbos; who mostly inhabited that country during the slave trade era and for their role in Haiti's Independence in 1804. There's a popular saying in Haiti; "nous se Ibo", when translated from French means "We are Igbos."
There's also a major street in the Capital (Route Ibo lélé), a popular Ibo dance known as dansé Ibo. And there exists a radio station: Radio Ibo 98.5 Fm.
They also have a national folklore song honouring the Igbo race; Ibo grandmoun (Igbos are their own authority).
During the Nigeria-Biafra War,(1967-1970) Haiti was the first country to recognize the Republic of Biafra as an independent country through a highly publicized presidential letter.
Just recently, over 100 Haitians were in Enugu state to trace their roots back home.

Boxer Sugar Ray Robinson once backed out of a fight because he had a dream he was going to kill his opponent in the ring. However, after being convinced by a priest, he agreed to fight. He knocked his opponent out cold, who was taken to hospital and pronounced dead the next day.
On July 29, 1967, Yakubu Gowon wrote a letter to the British Prime Minister, Harlod Wilson, begging him to stop BBC Financial Times and the Economist from reporting the true situation in Biafra in exchange for oil supplies as they gave him arms.
