The idea that American tax dollars should go towards the improvement of American lives is NOT socialism.

I have not ONCE advocated for the government to assume control of the means of production and equally spread those resources amongst the populace.

THAT is socialism.

FFS I am literally advocating for tax levels to be where they were before Reagan came in with his trickle down bull SHIT and gutted the working class.

The billionaires are NOTHING without us. They leverage our resources, our energy, our labor and our LIVES.

Not ONCE have I asked for or advocated for an equal distribution of wealth.

On God, we are just SICK of giving every single thing we have to offer to the oligarchs and going bankrupt with a single cancer diagnosis.

We pay everything and get NOTHING.

I respect @ezraklein a lot, but this is dead wrong and frankly a baffling thing to say.

Charlie Kirk was the *epitome* of our modern brand of poisonous politics. Ezra tries to make the point that he went around to college campuses to debate people. And that's true, for a very tortured version of the word 'debate'.

But Charlie Kirk was not trying to build bridges. He was not trying to reach a common understanding with his opponents in the way that Ezra himself does. He was not operating in good faith, and his goal was not respectful two-way conversations where both sides can grow and change.

Kirk's goal at his college 'debates' was not to find experts on tricky issues of culture and policy and then have a Socratic dialogues and learn from them. His goal was to find a purple haired nineteen year-old sociology major with more feelings than sense, and then dunk on them. He wanted to farm clips he could use on social media to make his opponents look ridiculous, and he was good at it. When I think about how social media has changed politics for the worse, Charlie Kirk and his style of engagement is one of the main protagonists.

We live in a heavily polarized era where the parties hate each other more than they have in decades and political violence is on the rise. And while it might be distasteful to say it directly after he was murdered, Kirk was one of the people driving that hatred and that polarization. He taught his audiences to hate and fear their opponents. He egged on the public's worst and basest instincts. He flirted heavily and repeatedly with the idea of political violence.

It should obviously be said that none of that justifies killing him. Anyone who advocates for political violence is no friend or ally of mine. But for a man who wrote a book called "Why We're Polarized" to look at Charlie Kirk and say that he practiced politics the right way is delusional.

this isn’t just about npr and pbs. we’re talking about local emergency services. rural stations. amber alerts. they voted to defund life-saving communications. and considering the cuts to weather services and living in a hurricane-prone area, this terrifies me.

So I am guessing something like this happened:

1. Jeff Bezos called Trump and told him 70% of the stuff sold on Amazon will go up in price by 100% next week.

2. Tim Cook called Trump and said iPhones are going up in price by 100% next week.

3. Michael Dell called Trump and said all laptops and PCs will go up in price by 100% next week.

White House realised that US economy is about to implode, US dollar is crashing, bond yields are going off the chart, and inflation is about to skyrocket.

They went and rolled back the majority of Chinese tariffs over the weekend with tails between their legs.

Every country can now see that the tariffs are a blank bluff with zero strategy.

Every company is now 100% sure that moving production to the US is a complete waste of time because the tariffs policy is completely unreliable and extremely volatile.

A giant L being taken after implementing a policy that nobody actually thought through.

What was the actual point?

No jobs have come back. No factories were built. Trade imbalance remains exactly where it was. Borrowing costs for the US increased. And business relationships with the rest of the world got destroyed for no apparent reason.
