Think about how he operated. He raped children while holding down a council job. He trafficked girls while sitting as a director of the Citizens Advice Bureau. The first complaint reached the police in 2005 and he carried on for years, working from a desk in a public building, in plain sight of everyone.

Men who fear the law hide from it. Daddy never hid. That tells you something, because impunity is learned behaviour. Somebody, somewhere, taught him he was untouchable.

Last week I showed you the nine times they let him go. Today I set out what the man himself could tell the National Inquiry when it arrives in Oldham. Seven things only he knows. Who authored his protections. How the machine really worked. And the one list that fourteen years of investigations were never allowed to touch.

They will tell you a liar has no place in a witness box. Liars are what inquiries are for. His old friends understand exactly what he carries. It is why every one of them is queueing at the departure gate, begging the state to fly him beyond reach before anyone administers the oath.
