maybe when Shakira did it at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show in front of 100 million people… like this isn’t some indie underground thing you guys just have to pay attention to the world around you and get curious when you see different cultures
@resurrecti0ns “consumerism” is definitely a buzzword and feels like something OP just threw in there because they wanted to fit the faults with the movie into an anti-communistic framework even though it’s not entirely accurate
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if ur is going to write a serious review then you gotta be prepared for people to seriously engage with the analysis. this is an incredibly narrow reading that attempts to transpose issues identified by theory onto the film instead of engaging with its themes first
some of the points about government propaganda are real but i fear it’s a little intellectually dishonest to claim that the film equates science and consumerism bc there’s one shopping trip in the beginning when like the other 70% takes place on a government funded spacecraft
there’s nothing inherently anti-communist liberal about believing that the world will be saved by kindness and trusting in science. only those things? sure. but the movie doesn’t posit that. rocky + adrian can’t be amazon IP product placement when they’re from the book.
my review of project hail mary, a movie (and book!) i've been incessantly yapping about on twitter for the last five years. i discuss the state of sci fi, what makes a prestige film, the value of humor, and the importance of sincerity. https://t.co/x71Qi53lrU
i will singlehandedly cause project hail mary to be the top grossing summer blockbuster of 2024. @philiplord@chrizmillr you will not release on streaming. it will be a theatrical summer release. all of rocky’s parts will be subbed. you will not hire a celebrity voice actor.
@kamrynsfilm :( his entire speech was about highlighting the diversity of the people who worked on the film and using art to inspire change like i thought it was a very touching
Sentimental Value, a film that avoids politics like the plague, winning International Film over 4 extremely powerful and overtly political films is telling!
