IGP DISU, NBA PRESIDENT MOVE TO END POLICE-LAWYER FRICTIONS, STRENGTHEN JUSTICE DELIVERY
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has received the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, and members of the Association’s National Executive Committee on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on 8 September 2026, with both institutions agreeing on the need for stronger professional collaboration, improved communication and greater mutual respect in advancing justice and public safety.
Speaking during the visit, the NBA President emphasised the need for closer synergy between the Police and the legal profession, particularly through specialised training for lawyers and improved engagement between Police lawyers and members of the wider Bar. She noted that the NBA has a responsibility to remain responsive to the needs of its members across the country and advocated for an end to recurring clashes between lawyers and Police officers, stressing that both professions have complementary responsibilities within the justice system.
The NBA President further highlighted a UNICEF-supported initiative on children’s access to justice, under which the NBA is proposing the presence of a Police lawyer at every Police station to provide appropriate legal support to children who come into contact with the juvenile justice system. The proposal, she noted, underscores the importance of ensuring that vulnerable children are adequately supported and protected throughout the justice process.
Responding, the IGP congratulated Mrs Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her emergence as President of the NBA and described the engagement as an opportunity to build a stronger and more structured relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the legal profession. He stressed that respect for every individual, office and profession must remain fundamental to professional interactions, noting that while lawyers are principally concerned with protecting citizens’ rights and the Police with protecting lives and property, the responsibilities of both institutions converge in the administration of justice.
The IGP also called for greater professionalism and responsibility in the recording and dissemination of encounters involving Police officers. He stressed that personnel should not be subjected to ridicule or have the demanding circumstances of their duties trivialised for social media entertainment, particularly when officers operate under challenging conditions in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities to protect lives and property.
As part of efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation, the IGP identified improved professional engagement, measures to reduce delays in criminal trials and the establishment of a dedicated NPF/NBA mechanism for seamless and open communication as key areas requiring sustained collaboration. He noted that such a mechanism would provide a structured channel for addressing professional concerns, improving coordination and resolving issues before they escalate into unnecessary confrontations.
The IGP reaffirmed that the Police and the legal profession are partners in the pursuit of justice and acknowledged that disagreements may arise in the course of their respective duties. He, however, stressed that such differences must be managed professionally, respectfully and with civility, while expressing his readiness to work with the new NBA leadership towards a stronger and more productive partnership.
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association and other justice-sector stakeholders towards protecting fundamental rights, improving access to justice, promoting professionalism and building a more effective, responsive and trusted criminal justice system.

For decades, the script was simple:
Africa drills the oil,
the West refines it,
and Africa buys it back at triple the price, with gratitude. Imagine that!
Now Dangote came with a 650,000-barrel-per-day “plot twist.”
-The first migraine hit when U.S. fuel export numbers started twitching. West Africa, that loyal customer, suddenly said, “No thanks, we’ll refine it at home.” Imagine selling umbrellas in a desert, that’s how America feels right now in the diesel market.
-Then came the second headache, the petrodollar sneeze. If Nigeria starts trading refined products in naira, yuan, or even “AfriPay,” that’s a direct jab at Uncle Sam’s global ATM. The dollar doesn’t like competition; it catches inflation fever when others sneeze independence.
-Third pain: The geopolitical thermometer just went up. Africa’s biggest refinery means fewer oil tankers from Texas, and more from Lagos to Lome, under African control. That’s not energy trade; that’s energy freedom. And freedom, apparently, is bad for business.
-Fourth dose: The U.S. isn’t happy seeing Nigeria shaking hands with China and India on refinery deals. It’s like watching your ex build a mansion with your rival. The refinery runs on Chinese funding and Indian technology, two things America used to monopolize.
-And finally, the fifth and deadliest headache, the symbolism.
Dangote didn’t just build a refinery; he built a mirror, showing Africa what it could’ve been decades ago if it stopped outsourcing its future.
Now Washington can’t just send “economic advisers” and “development loans” with fancy conditions anymore. Africa might soon say, “Thanks, but we’ve got this.”
So Dangote’s refinery isn’t just refining oil, it’s refining pride, power, and perspective.
And for the first time, the biggest gas leak in the room isn’t from Nigeria, it’s from America’s nerves.

Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.
Since 2023, our administration has maintained an open and active engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders alike and continues to address security challenges which affect citizens across faiths and regions.
The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians.
Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so. Nigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it.
Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths.
Our administration is committed to working with the United States government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation on protection of communities of all faiths.
BOLA AHMED TINUBU
PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
Yesterday was a solemn and deeply emotional day for me.
We laid to rest a man I was proud to call a friend, a brother, and a patriot… His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
Mai Gaskiya was not just a former president. He was a man of rare discipline and quiet strength, whose love for Nigeria shaped every decision he made, even in the face of criticism.
I mourn him deeply, not just as my predecessor, but as a comrade in the long and often lonely journey of nation-building.
To his beloved wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and the entire family, I offer my heartfelt condolences. May you find comfort in the honour and legacy he leaves behind.
Nigeria has lost a true son. I have lost a friend in former President Buhari.
May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
Rest well, ‘Baba Buhari’

Good morning, Nigerians!
@PastorMarvy That is what PDP does. Thats how they get rid of their perceived opponents. They'll pull a formidable opponent to their party, and that's the end. PDP will not field him in Lagos State. Bet it with me.

PRESS RELEASE
NPF TO COMMENCE ENFORCEMENT OF E-CMR, TASKS VEHICLE USERS TO REGISTER FOR SAFETY, SECURITY COMPLIANCE
As part of the efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D, to enhancing the security of lives and property, the Nigeria Police Force is set to commence the enforcement of the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) within the next 14 days, specifically on the 29th of July, 2024, to rejuvenate and digitalize the motor vehicle registration system, significantly bolstering our nation's safety and security framework.
The e-CMR is an advanced, real-time online repository of motor vehicle data, designed to support police investigations, operational activities, and combat vehicle-related crimes, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery. The transition to a digitalized system will streamline the documentation and verification processes for vehicle ownership and related transactions.
Following the directives of the IGP, services such as change of ownership, change of license number, change of engine, and change of chassis/body would become seamless as the e-CMR system would ensure the validation of vehicle genuineness and ownership, enhancing the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles effectively, and preventing the purchase of stolen vehicles by innocent buyers.
Prior to the enforcement itself, the IGP has ordered full publicity of the e-CMR and its enforcement to all members of the public intimating them of the requirements, processes, and the enforcement procedures. Members of the public are urged to obtain the digitalized CMR certificate online at https://t.co/IEtWNGaSNx. For further inquiries, individuals can contact the CMR Command Centre at FHQ Abuja (08117777666, 09169892000) and FHQ Annex Lagos (08117777555, 09169891000). Technical support is also available at [email protected].
The Nigeria Police Force, while seeking for the understanding and support of all well-meaning Nigerians and residents on this initiative, remains committed to leveraging technology and strategic approaches to enhance public safety and national security. The enforcement of the e-CMR is necessary to ensure a safer and secure environment for vehicle ownership and decimate the trend of vehicle theft by greatly reducing the possibility of selling stolen vehicles in the country. We therefore urge all vehicle owners and users to embrace and key into this initiative promptly for optimum safety and security.
