I began my career at the Georgia Department of Agriculture, went on to be a science teacher, a science center coordinator, and completed my journey at the Georgia Department of Education. A school garden story like this makes me smile.
During my decades in education (particularly the 15+ yrs in the classroom), I would have never made a difference for even 1 child had I not believed in this truth…
Sending heartfelt gratitude to @DrBiden for the perseverance you’ve shown maintaining both your teaching job & the full responsibilities of an active FLOTUS over the past 4 years - a role model for us all.
@GaDOEScience Having been part of the GaDOE science staff in the 2000’s, it’s refreshing to see updated resources for teachers from current science specialists. A look at some of the middle grades resources might make a semi-retired educator long to use them in a classroom. Two thumbs up!
Sometimes, like #butterflies, people or institutions need to go through metamorphosis. That the butterfly uses change for survival fuels my passion to protect their environment. From that students’ engagement in #science has grown.
@CarterLibrary@WhiteHouseHstry The ornament is a fitting tribute to an unwavering man of character, who with an extraordinary wife led with grace, peace, compassion, honesty, & steadfast principles. President Carter remains the anchor of humanity’s collective conscience.

Returning to the Outdoor Learning Symposium as a speaker was as thrilling as my first time there as a teacher so long ago. Thanks Mike Kahle & all who planned OLS’23, & to all those involved over 2 decades for creating the “map” for my professional journey. #outdoorlearning
Another #CitizenScience opportunity for teachers and students similar to discussion topics yesterday in my presentation on Outdoor Science at #NSTA2023. What a great group of teachers to share my adventure stories in taking kids & science outdoors. Thanks to all who were there.
Collect observations of snakes, lizards, turtles and more with @HerpMapper. This project gathers and shares information about reptiles and amphibians across the planet. Your observations are valuable for research, conservation and preservation. https://t.co/5NzGAXJy6I

What a beautiful sentiment! I echo this & hope my students also remember to spend time outdoors, to value the landscapes & the animals & plants therein… knowing their actions can impact local & global habitats. #teacher#Science#STEMed#environmentaled
We’ve collected interesting facts about 10 kinds of #trees from around the world. 🌴
Use this #activity idea to present images and #ForestFriday facts to kids and have them create “tree profiles” to illustrate what they've learned! https://t.co/4t40OEteSv
#Pollinators are drawn to native Bee Balm in my garden, purchased at a local master gardeners plant sale. Do you have a pollinator garden at home or your school? What blooms are visited most frequently by the #bees, #butterflies, #bats, or #birds? Why certain plants?
Read about the #oceans, definitely. Then take kids & #scienceteachers to visit and study at the #seashore! Sea Turtle teacher Kathy Gunn set the example in Georgia…I was thrilled to be part of her legacy.
What have we done today to encourage young people to care for the Earth? What have we done to reduce our own mark on the natural world, and will it be enough? #Earthday22#Earth#Climate#science
@kmgill135@NGSS_tweeps@jluft_OT To differentiate outdoor science from recess, clearly communicate the learning goals prior to taking kids outdoors & briefly recap once in school yard. Use time wisely!
