little rant post i'm prefacing with: I don't care about the number of followers I have; y'all are people and I appreciate you for YOU, not for the +1 you add to a number in my profile.

I will say this: It is painfully easy to tell who only cares about being popular or perceived as such. I (and many others) make an effort to actively avoid those people. It is extremely disheartening to encounter some folks who only hang around you or others because you are a "gateway" to more popular people.

You guys are grown ass adults hyper-fixated on a number in a profile on social media. Grow up, get a job, find a hobby, do something. There is so much more to this life than hopping from person to person trying to climb a social hierarchy that exists only in your perception.

tl;dr: being human is far more likeable than acting friendly while really just social climbing.
