A key 1st grade learning standard is lifecycles. Many D93 1st graders learn about this topic firsthand in their classrooms by observing chicken eggs from incubation to hatched chicks. Find out more about what Heritage Lakes students learned from the experience this year!

Shedd Aquarium volunteer diver Miss Cindy visited Heritage Lakes this week to teach kindergarteners about ocean ecosystems! She showcased scuba gear, had a student “prepare for a dive,” taught underwater sign language, and shared how we impact the ocean and ways to help.
Each month, a Heritage Lakes grade votes on a “Pop-Up Spirit Day,” a fun PBIS celebration like Pajama Day. This month, kindergarteners chose an All-School Chicken Dance, and the whole school shook, flapped, and wiggled, led by the festively dressed Principal Yelaska!
