Strength Training should never take away from you Sport.
Strength Training should only aid in increasing sports performance.
For that reason, we use very low volumes year round.
When you realize this, goals start to serve you rather than the reverse...
Live the type of life you want to live, *then* identify a goal in line with that.
Even if you "fall short" of the goal, you're still living the life you want to live...
And that's the ultimate win.
Coaches believe the results come strictly from the sets and reps.
Results come from getting someone to believe in where you’re taking them.
To do that, you need to show up each and everyday and make sure you’re on the right path.
Sustainable Conditioning = Base
Unsustainable Conditioning = Peak
The more we build our aerobic base through sustainable and repeatable work, the more effective our unsustainable work will become.
A question I get all the time:
"I have a busy life, and I only have a few hours to train each week. Shouldn't I make them count by going harder?"
No.
See, your body doesn't separate training stress from life stress.
If you're carrying a full-time job, poor sleep, family responsibilities, and financial stress, your "stress bank account" is already running too low for high-intensity training....
You're broke!
Your adaptation reserves are already being spent!
My latest...
Why Too Much Intensity Breaks Athletes:
Understanding Adaptation Energy
If you hear “Sport Specific Training” it’s 100% a sign to run the other way.
Athletes should not view their S&C as a Player, but as an ATHLETE.
Bigger, Faster, Stronger Athletes thrive in all arenas. S&C should improve Global Force capabilities, NOT practice skills.
The more simple a program, the more simple the progression.
The more simple the progression, the better mapping we can create.
The better mapping we can create then more efficient and repeatable the process becomes.
Efficiency is an underlooked assets inside of training.
Understanding movement allows us to make more out of less and in return, create more adaptation in a shorter amount of time.
More time training doesn’t always equal better results.
Coaches….
In my professional opinion, if you’re not making time to train….youre doing your clients a disservice. Hold yourself accountable and make time to train.
If you find yourself failing time and time again to start your fitness journey, take a step back and look at your priorities first. Then build your life and fitness around it.
Own up to your mistakes as a coach.
We aren’t perfect, neither is the client…
When we make mistakes, it’s important to explain and come back with solutions.
That’s growth of a coach.
Many coaches are doing way too much volume in the weight room and have no idea
Here’s what you need:
- 6-8 exercises
- 20-25 total sets
- about 45 minutes of work
That will get the job done
