If we truly care about the generations to come, one of the most important things we must do is revitalize the soil. If we do not do this, it would be a terrible crime against all life on the planet. We must #SaveSoil. Let us make it happen. -Sg

Amazing things happen when soil is revitalized!
Healthy soil forms the bedrock of a greener, cooler planet. As the second-largest carbon sink, it is pivotal in reversing climate change. Further, increased plant cover helps regulate the Earth's temperature by providing shade and releasing moisture through transpiration.

Even if you’re eating plenty of vegetables, you might not get enough minerals.🥗💪
Calcium, magnesium and iron levels in cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes and spinach have dropped up to 90% since 1914 due to soil depletion. 🥬🍅
By adding organic matter we can reverse this.🌾

A boy named Jordan was entrusted with taking care of a bell pepper sapling that was recently planted by his mother. The sapling had 2 leaves when it was planted. In a few days a few more leaves came out.
"Mom, the plant has 5 leaves now", Jordan ran inside shouting.
Jordan was very possessive about the plant. It is about a foot tall now. He did not allow any insect, worm or bug to come close to it. There was a tiny ant hill near the plant. He smashed it and closed the hole. Next day, the hole again appeared. He closed it again. The hole reappeared. Jordan was tired of closing it. He left it as it is. One day while playing with his friends, one of the marbles fell inside the hole. He poked inside with his stick but couldn't find it.
Next day as he was playing, he saw the marble coming up the hole. He thought it's magic. After a few seconds he saw ants pushing the marble up the hole.
Jordan thanked the ants. The queen ant who was overseeing it, quipped, "Don’t mention it."
Jordan was surprised listening to ants talking.
"Please do not throw the marbles into our tunnels. It was blocking air from our AC," requested the queen ant.
Message of the story? Ant tunnels enhance water infiltration and circulate air in the ground which is beneficial not only to the soil, but plant roots as well. Ants also help with pollination by crawling over one flower to another; in the home and outside, ants are natural pest control agents for termites.

Cultivating native trees and crops are integral to #SaveSoil of the region and to revive its health and richness. Congratulations to the coconut farmers of the South for your efforts to enrich the community’s economy and ecology through integrated farming practices. It is time to complement modern agricultural systems with traditional farming practices that kept the soil and the farmer rich for several millennia. -Sg @AgriGoI@cpsavesoil
Cover crops or green manures are quick-growing plants that keep soil covered over winter, protecting it from erosion. They retain and recycle plant nutrients, add organic matter to the soil and improve soil structure.
Cover crops act as 'green manures,' enriching the soil with valuable nutrients. When turned into the earth, they release essential elements that nourish future crops, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. This has a double effect: it is healthier for the soil and reduces the cost for the farmer. Win-win!

It is wonderful that for the first time at COP, there is a major declaration on agriculture and carbon credits, with soil being a significant part, endorsed by both government and non-government parties. Soil, agriculture, and farms are crucial because the wellbeing of the next generation depends on them. -Sg
