Whether you like him or not, you will have to acknowledge that he left a legacy which came to be known as ‘Nehruvian Consensus’:
1. Conservative Democracy
2. Socialistic Economy
3. Nehruvian Secularism
4. Non Alignment
It took 30 years to dismantle that consensus.
1. CD - Electoral alliance of Savarnas (mainly Brahmins) + Dalits/Muslims (mainly in clientalist mode) - this consensus of Conservative democracy got fatal blow in 1990 by Mandal commission and rise of OBC to power.
2. SE - this consensus too was being challenged in 1980s and shattered in 1991.
3. NS - this consensus was challenged by muslims in 1980s (Shah Bano) and then dismantled by 1992 with Demolition.
4. NAM - this consensus was first broken by Indira by aligning with USSR but mainly dismantled after 1990-92 with soviet collapse and Rao’s rapproachment with the west. Now the doctrine is multi-aligned.
So whether u liked the consensus or hated it, you must acknowledge that Nehru shaped the mindset of policy makers and population and created a consensus which lasted for almost first 40 years of the republic and to certain extent in the next 40 years as well.
What legacy, idea of nation, policy framework, nature of polity and instiutionalisation around it the new dispensation and Narendra Modi will leave behind. The task at his hand is more challenging as unlike Nehru he does not have the luxury of blank slate. He has to erase, write and ensure its sustainability. At the same time he will have to institutionalise the change.

There are thousands of good things he has done, but I will list four which will burn you the most…
1. Ram Mandir
2. Removal of Article 370
3. Naxal-free India
4. Hindu awakening against radicalised Muslims of this country.
Today, people are telling us to talk with these radical mad Islamist piglets. I have one suggestion: just go and ask those 26 women whose husbands were killed in front of them because they were Hindu. If you can convince those women that we have to talk with Pakistan, then do that.
