Written by architectural historian @owen_hopkins and photographed by Nigel Green, Brutalist London features more than fifty extraordinary buildings, with an introduction and maps.
The book reveals the beauty, ambition and social ideals that shaped London's most iconic Brutalist structures – from the Barbican and National Theatre to lesser-known private homes and civic structures. All these buildings, once vilified, are now celebrated and truly belong to their neighbourhoods.
🎉Delighted to hear this news.🎉 Retention of Alan Boyson’s Grade II Listed ‘Three Ships’ is included within the scope of the scheme. We welcome ongoing consultation about this and the reinstatement of the ‘Fish’ mural 👌🙌💙🩵🤍

BREAKING NEWS: We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that the Southbank Centre, which includes the Hayward Gallery, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall and skatepark undercroft, has finally been Grade II listed by DCMS - the government Department for Culture Media and Sport.
Designed by LCC Architects’ Dept. and built 1963-68, the visionary combination of performance spaces and art gallery is an internationally recognised post-war architectural masterpiece, yet is perhaps the most totemic - and controversial - examples of British Brutalism, once voted as ‘Britain’s ugliest building’ by readers of the Daily Mail.
Twentieth Century Society and Historic England (formerly English Heritage) have recommended listing the Southbank Centre on 6 separate occasions since 1991, yet this advice had been consistently rejected by the Secretary of State of the day, until now. The decision brings to an end an unprecedented 35 year-long impasse, one of the longest running battles in British architectural heritage.

Great to see @BarbicanCentre taking care to clean Dorothy Annan's wonderful ceramic mural that they have homed since Goldman Sachs wanted to destroy it when redeveloping Fleet Building but saved thanks to @C20Society. Only 3 of her public murals survive a thread
