Dear ANl madam,

It might sound alien to you, but in lsIam, women are not at the mercy of their husbands to end the marriage.
They can initiate the process themselves - it is called khuIa.
And lsIam didn't need any 'reform' to give women their rights. They were given 1400 years back.

A musIim woman doesn't burπ herself on her husband's pyre, nor does she shave her head, don white clothes and mourπ him for the rest of her life.
She just completes the iddat (waiting period) of 4 months and 10 days to ascertain possible pregnancy ( to settle paternity of the unborn baby) and can remarry and move on in life.

One last thing.
In lsIam, men are not allowed to abaπd0π their wives. Anyone who does that becomes a sinner, not a PM.
