"Here’s the problem: today, the description of the world is always reduced to yes or no, black or white. Superficial stories. Superhero stories. One side is the good one. The other one is evil.
"But I’m not a moral lesson giver. It’s not for me to say what is right or wrong. I describe situations as honestly as possible. The way I saw it. That’s why I use my own life as material. I have seen these things myself, and now I’m telling it to you.
"Because the world is not about Batman and Robin fighting the Joker; things are more complicated than that. And nothing is scarier than the people who try to find easy answers to complicated questions."
~ Marjane Satrapi (1969-2026)
@ResedaforAll@texffurmmer i was one of them! imo the neighborhood council system felt like busy work to keep well meaning people occupied but unable to accomplish much of anything
She took a photo of her baby leaving for school, probably marveling at how fast kids grow up. Sent him with a packed lunch and all his books. And he was murdered before she could see him again. I cannot take the cruelty. May Allah ease her pain 💔
@MayorOfLA then why are you only installing “large asphalt repairs” instead of following the laws enacted by Measure HLA and making streets safer - the thing we all voted for? 🫤
Hope @LADOTofficial has plans to replace our crosswalks & memorial for Nadir: they had funding for 14 years to make this intersection safer, but it only took 3 months to remove. The city can always act quickly for its interests! They should be ashamed. Guess we’ll paint again..
“It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, November 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped, and summer was gone.”
- A. Bartlett Giamatti (with a small change from October to November)
