A self-published book is not a book that couldn't get a traditional deal. A self-published book is not lesser. We're not just the rejects waiting for trad-pub validation.
Dang it, Costco was out of motorized shopping carts today, so I guess I'm sitting in the car until my partner is done shopping alone. :/ First time this has happened, admittedly, but it's a stark reminder of the limitations of accessibility that disabled people face.
In 7th grade, my teacher told the class that nobody really knows what lightning is or why it happens.
Teachers don't have to know everything, but I worry about the state of the 1800s textbooks they must have studied from.
@blipstress@dongwon Agreed. I've read some books over the years that everyone has told me were awesome, and sometimes I'm just left going, "Did I miss something? Because I can't see a single reason why do many people think this is great."
And then I feel stupid and frustrated for not getting it.
The world treats disabled people like shit, and life is so expensive, and I'm told over and over that I have the right to feel like I can contribute, but those same people who say that are the ones blocking me from being able to feel like I can actually contribute.
Oh good. Our dryer seems to be broken. Again.
We can't afford to keep dealing with so many broken things. Not with necessary vet appointments and rising costs of everything and me not being able to work.
Some days I wake up and I just want to cry over how useless I am.
@QEisenacher In 1996 I was 12 years old, and still believed that generally people wouldn't do racist sexist bigoted things because those things were illegal.
Boy do I ever wish 12 year old me had been correct...
