We welcome the news that the Victorian Society has put the Chance Glassworks on the top 10 Endangered Buildings for 2024. This year is probably the best chance we will ever have to save it. Like the Crooked House. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!
I've just released my new LP 'Destress Of Permanence' on my bandcamp with an exclusive extra track assembled from album field recordings.

#OnThisDay in 1823 a Fresnel lens was used for the 1st time. Developed by French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel (1788-1827) it was installed in Cordouan Lighthouse.
They became known as the "invention that saved a million ships" and were used in lighthouses around the world.
Coincidentally, Robert Stevenson was also born #onthisday in 1772. Engineer to the Northern Lighthouse Board. His biggest project, the Bell Rock lighthouse was inspired by the Eddystone lighthouse and developed Smeaton's methods further.
The film is the culmination of a 9 year oral history project, in partnership with the School of Scottish Studies Archives @EU_SSSA. Find out more https://t.co/tGTycVKUse
@thedustyteapot Anything concerning Bidston Lighthouse around the time of its 1873 rebuild? One puzzle is that MDHB seem not to have issued a Notice to Mariners when the new light was introduced. Consequently, the light was wrongly described in sea charts and light lists for decades afterwards.
Calm seas surround the Fastnet Lighthouse on a gloomy day, with Cape Clear peering beneath low clouds in the distance. As featured in my 'Lighthouses of Cork' 2023 photo calendar - available to pre-order here: https://t.co/IMq6XtPAhv #Lighthouses@IrishLights
