It works. Then the idea vanishes for decades.
Why?
The “adjacent possible” wasn’t ready.
Today buccal mucosa grafts + robotic allows complex ureteral reconstruction with no bowel harvest, no lifelong stents, excellent results.
I was lucky to help pioneer the robotic version @nyulangone w @mdstifelman. & link with @md_eun @ZLeeGU to validate the technique.
This is how real surgical innovation works: not leaps of faith, but just walking through doors as they slowly open.

One year ago, I completed training at #IRCAD France, one of the best and most prestigious schools of laparoscopic surgery in the world.
During my training, I attended dozens of hours of lectures and participated in dozens of hours of surgery (wet lab) under the guidance of leading European professors.
It was a significant step in my professional development. I am grateful to #IRCAD for such a high level of medical education!
