For those who are confused, contempt of court rules:

(1) prohibit any publication, speech of writing which "creates a substantial risk that the course of justice in the proceedings in question will be seriously impeded or prejudiced",

(2) Apply from the moment an arrest without a warrant is made.

In the Southport case, the arrest of the attacker was made on 29th July 2024, the same day as the incident.

The contempt rules applied until the attacker pleaded guilty, which was yesterday.

The rules would apply to important background information like referrals to Prevent, as that information would potentially influence a jury. All newspapers know this.

This is not an accurate description of events at all.

I was part of a delegation of speakers, who wished to peacefully carry and lay flowers in memory of children in Gaza who had been killed.

This was facilitated by the police. We did not force our way through.

When we reached Trafalgar Square, we informed police that we would go no further, lay down flowers and disperse.

At that point, the Chief Steward, Chris Nineham was arrested. We then turned back and dispersed.

I urge the police to release all bodycam footage and retract its misleading account of events.
