On Thursday evening, Big Bend National Park received notice of a fatality along the Chimneys Trail. Rangers responded, and a deceased 75-year-old male from Houston was located approximately ½ mile from the trailhead. There was no obvious cause of death.

Recent river flooding has damaged the trail to the Hot Springs, and the Hot Springs are filled with sediment. The historic area is open, but the trail to the springs is closed until further notice.
From May 29 to June 1, resource staff will be applying herbicide to control non-native giant cane in the RGV area. There will be a temporary closure along the river from Daniels Ranch picnic area to the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail.

Wildfire in the Chisos:
At 11:00 AM, rangers were notified of a wildfire in the Southwest Rim area of the Chisos. Current estimate is 1.5 acres in size. Firefighters are hiking to the area now, and will work to contain the fire once they arrive. No trail closures at this time.

Boquillas Canyon Road Closure 4-4 to 4-5
The Boquillas Canyon Rd will be resurfaced on Monday and Tuesday, April 4th - April 5th. During this process, the road will be closed daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There will be NO access to the Boquillas Canyon or Marufo Vega Trails.
