If people in ancient China supposedly couldn’t communicate with each other in the same language, then explain this to me: how did people from all over the country who passed the imperial examinations and entered the central government communicate with the emperor and with their fellow officials? And how did officials who were assigned to govern in completely different regions communicate with the local population?

What I find strange is that I can’t exactly say you know nothing about China—but almost everything you think you know about China is completely wrong. I’m genuinely curious where you got these ideas from.

For example, the idea that Chinese students can’t understand Classical Chinese, or that Chinese people from different regions in ancient times were unable to communicate with one another.

And there’s one more thing I really don’t understand: when a Chinese computer engineer who can not only read Classical Chinese but actually write it takes something he personally wrote in Classical Chinese and uses it to prove you wrong, how are you still able to insist that Chinese people don’t understand Classical Chinese?
