➡️ Since it's a slow news day, I want to discuss the difference between market cap and FDV. $BLAST's market cap is hilariously low now at $270 million and ranked out of the top-200 tokens, even below its sister project $BLUR. However...

➡️ (cont'd) Blast's FDV is $1.5 billion, which ranks in the top-100 comfortably by FDV and above a bunch of other L2s. What's the difference and which should you pay attention to? Here are some thoughts:

➡️ (cont'd) Market cap only looks at unlocked tokens while FDV looks at total supply. The more tokens that are locked, the bigger the gap between the two. As a brand new project, Blast still has 83% of its supply to unlock - which'll slowly go to team members, investors, and the community

➡️ (cont'd) Side note: a lot of ppl dislike "low market cap, high FDV" tokens. They'd prefer that most of the supply circulated at launch without having to worry about large unlocks in the future, many by VCs who may dump. It's a fair point. The counter-argument is that some of the biggest web3 projects launched the same way. Solana, AVAX, and ARB all had more tokens locked at launch than Blast

➡️ (cont'd) Should you use FDV or market cap when valuing $BLAST? Ideally, keep both in mind and consider market cap as a "short-term" value, important for traders looking for quick price action, and FDV as a "long-term" value, important for investors looking into the future

➡️ (cont'd) One example: let's say Pacman announces that all Blast holders will get a free Cybertruck. And let's say this makes the market cap of Blast instantly 10x, from $270 million to $2.7 billion

➡️ (cont'd) If you're a short-term trader, that market cap may still look cheap to you. It's outside the top-30 and you can imagine Elon Musk tweeting about the promotion and more news networks covering it, driving up demand. You couldn't care less about FDV - you'll have sold long before any new tokens unlock. You buy and hope for a quick 2X

➡️ (cont'd) If you're a long-term trader, you'll notice that Blast's FDV is suddenly $16 billion, making it a top-10 token by FDV. You think that's way too high and don't see any change in fundamentals to warrant it. In fact, you worry that this free Cybertruck promo will bankrupt the project long-term and cause sell pressure once new tokens unlock from worried VCs and team members. You sell

➡️ (cont'd) If you balance both FDV and market cap, you may keep some tokens to flip into news but sell the majority based on the FDV

➡️ (cont'd) Returning to the present, if you think Blast will announce something exciting soon that could pump price or if the ETH ETF causes all L2s to print, then the $260 million market cap is extremely spicy. If you're more long-term oriented, $1.5 billion FDV is also low but whether it's fair or not depends on how you see season 2 playing out and whether Blast will continue to grow in users, TVL and on-chain activity compared to other L2s
