Statement: The Pattern Never Changes

The pattern never changes. Once again, the will of Nigerian lawyers has been subverted. Congratulations to the shadowy cabal and their enablers for destroying the very soul of the Nigerian Bar Association. What was meant to be the proud voice of justice has been reduced to a hollow shell, manipulated by a ruthless cult of personality with no regard for due process, fairness, or the rule of law.

The late Chief Rotimi Williams, SAN, and other founding fathers of the NBA, who labored to build this Association as a beacon of integrity, would be rolling in their graves today. They would weep to see that what they struggled to establish has been torn apart by selfish interests, by those who place ambition above principle, and manipulation above democracy.

This is not merely about one election. It is about a pattern a cycle of fraud, impunity, and betrayal. Each time, unpopular candidates are imposed through electronic trickery. Each time, calls for audits are ignored. Each time, aggrieved contestants are forced to seek justice in court, only for their cases to outlive the tenure in question. And each time, the credibility of the NBA is further eroded.

Let us be clear: if the NBA cannot conduct free and fair elections within its own ranks, it cannot expect to play any credible role in monitoring elections in Nigeria whether presidential, state, or local. As the Latin maxim reminds us: nemo dat quod non habet—you cannot give what you do not have. An Association that cannot guarantee fairness internally cannot demand fairness externally.

The NBA has become a monolith, suffocated by entrenched interests, and alienated from the larger body of Nigerian lawyers. Unless integrity is restored, unless one vote truly equals one voice, the Association risks irrelevance.
