Final leg of my 3,000km journey from the Black Mountains to Essaouira, roaming round the Anti Atlas Mountains with some old riding buddies. Amazing geology and rock landscapes, empty roads, big climbs, excellent coffee and gentle people - a version of touring heaven.
Hauled my aged ass over Col du Tichka in the High Atlas today. Boss moment. Amazing landscapes and much encouragement and warmth from the local Berber people. Turning west now, back to the Atlantic.
… and the descent into the Douro Valley today on perfect surfaces, in tune with the steed, barrelling through corners under blue skies. Yes, feeling my years, but feeling alive too.
Highlights - riding over Dartmoor under a running sky late in the day with amazing autumn light on the tors; hauling over Puerto de San Gloria in the Cantabrian Mountains; roads shaded from the heavy afternoon sun by mature plane trees in the Picos de Europa…
Sincere thanks for all generous expressions of encouragement and Bon voyage for my trip. It’s a heartwarming place, Twitter, sometimes. I’m 8 days in, including one on ferry to Santander, and making decent progress, to Guarda in Portugal - about 1000km on the pedals so far.
The new rig. I’m rolling south, from home to Essaouira on the Atlantic coast of Morocco - a solo journey of around 1,800 miles (I’m taking ferries from Plymouth to Santander and Tarifa to Tangiers) in just under four weeks. I may well be too old for this shit, but we shall see.

In September, we were privileged to support the Not Forgotten cycle tour from London to the National Memorial Arboretum via the south coast and Wales, including stops at notable and poignant sites en-route before concluding at the National Arboretum and the Not Forgotten statue
