The @walkscore of @FCPSLBSS is 22 of 100, largest π€ in @fcpsnews@Virginiadotgov. Is below 26 Burke avg. Nevertheless, high walk scores don't stop #SpeedIsAlwaysAFactor crashes.
It has 4,370+ students, 9 racks (10 bikes/rack), ~60% zoned in bike distance

We can 100% attest that starting a #BikeBus as a parent is incredibly harder.
We could only use publicly available boundary data & hope that students lived along the routes planned.
Even having a top of the line bike repair stand donated still met w/ opposition due to "safety"
@FCPSLBSS had its 2nd Fall Bike/Walk/Roll Day, supported by @JRWalkinshaw at Kings Park Library. @PatHerrity at the main entrance w/ @lbssptsa Pres. & LBSS staff.
When @PatHerrity heard our @VaDOT minigrant wasn't awarded, he was quick to propose funding collab w/ @JRWalkinshaw.

Its leader, PE teacher @CoachBalto, is proud of his school, but also told me that βvolunteering is inequitable and unsustainable,β and he hopes that this kind of thing can be formalized by school districts by renumerating the parents who spend time making it happen.

Wish @fcpsnews @FCPSSRTS1 looked to partner w/ @wmata & @ffxconnector so that more students could use their routes to/from school/EC.
For ex. Bus 17B arrives too early at @TJHSST_Official at 3:56pm w/ Bell at 4pm.
Next bus would be at 7:37pm. FFX 306 is of no use.
@JorgeATorrico@ffxconnector@ffxsafestreets The @NoVaTransit created a dashboard.

It would be great if student trips per school could be displayed, as well as for example per @fcpsnews region 1-6.
A common tactic of those opposed to biking, walking & mass transit as solutions for transportation, specially kids; is to "worry" about the edge cases.
Sports, musical instruments, after school activities are all solvable dilemmas when we prioritize safe active transportation.
The freedom to cycle from a relatively young age means that Dutch children don't need to rely on their parents for transport- including going to school.
93% of kids in the NL live within walking + cycling distance of an elementary school.

The prevalence of auto-centric transportation systems, have very deadly consequences, specially for teens making bad decisions.
Please note how infotainers for a major US media networks respond to efforts to change this deadly status quo. @PatHerrity @JRWalkinshaw @fairfaxcounty
