~200 years ago #medicine started to divide up specialties based on #organ systems; #neuroimmunology is one of many fields suggesting this is an arcane system that creates silos and limits understanding of processes. Physicians increasingly treat processes (itch, cancer, weight gain, etc.), not organs.

@PoojaJagadishMD Indications for desensitization are based on nature of reaction (clinical history) e.g history of an immediate IgE mediated allergy (anaphylaxis) like hives, throat closing etc. Many times due to remote history and poor recall, its done for a non-specific remote rash as well!

@PoojaJagadishMD A caution is history of AERD in which case asthma can go in exacerbation and may need more aggressive management and longer observation during desensitization.
Contraindications are SCARS (Severe Cut Adverse Reactions) like SJS, TENS, DRESS, AGEP.
