Street dog bites happen when animals are panicked, sick, or protecting pups in heat. Culling increases pack aggression by disrupting territory. CM @MaryamNSharif, if you want fewer bite cases on emergency room beds, manage street behavior at the root through neutering! 🏥🚨

🐶 Ascites is a symptom, not a disease. Fluid in the abdomen can signal heart, liver, or kidney problems. Early diagnosis saves lives.

@UbaidW74916@MaryamNSharif A society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable. Education should go hand in hand with compassion—not just for people, but for animals too. Humane and science-based solutions for stray dogs are the need of the hour.
Stray dogs in Punjab already face horrific hit-and-run accidents on our busy roads daily. Instead of building emergency rescue networks, the government gives them poison. @MaryamNSharif, where is our basic human empathy? 🚨🐾

Veterinarians should not be forced to end the lives of cats with treatable conditions simply because their families cannot afford care.
Economic euthanasia causes profound moral injury for veterinary professionals who entered this field to heal animals, yet are repeatedly placed in impossible situations.
A 2010 JAVMA study evaluated a lower-cost protocol for carefully selected male cats with urethral obstruction. Instead of maintaining a urethral catheter, veterinarians used decompressive cystocentesis, medication, fluids, pain control, close monitoring, and a quiet environment. Eleven of 15 cats urinated spontaneously within 72 hours and were discharged. Clients paid a set fee of $350, compared with the hospital’s standard estimate of $1,200 to $1,800 (yes, this was 2010 prices).
A newer JAVMA study evaluated lorazepam following treatment for urethral obstruction. Among the cats who completed follow-up, none receiving lorazepam reobstructed during the study period.
These protocols are not appropriate for every cat and should never be attempted at home. Urinary obstruction is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate veterinary assessment. But research into lower-cost, evidence-based treatment pathways could give more families an alternative to euthanasia.
Veterinarians should not feel personally guilty for failures in the system. We should, however, refuse to accept a system that makes economic euthanasia routine.
Have you cared for a cat with a urinary obstruction? What did treatment cost? Veterinarians, have you used lower-cost outpatient or non-catheterization protocols?
What would it take to make accessible veterinary care a reality?
