My gut sense is of history accelerating; of culture rushing to its cliff like a vast roiling cataract; of huge things turning in uneasy sleep under the dirt; of demons translating their vile complaint into computer code; of the lamps burning low but so bright; of impending truth.

VHS-Decode has to be one of the most interesting software projects I've stumbled upon recently.
It replaces the decoding process of a VHS tape with a software stack, bypassing most of the original hardware.
Using an FPGA device for RF capture like the MiSTer, it creates a "lossless" digital archive, which then runs through demodulation, noise filtering, chroma decoders, and more to create an archive in significantly higher quality than could ever be made with traditional methods.
Multiple tapes can even be combined and merged to create a capture that is better than any one individual tape. This is amazing for archival purposes; instead of storing tapes which are just going to continue to get worse with age, imagine backing up multiple RF-copies to the cloud!
Next Saturday, at 11:00 AM (EST), I'll be hosting an online SUMMER MOVIE MIND MELTER—24 hours of movies with that summer feel. My goal is for every viewer to leave going, "Wow! How had I never heard of that movie before?"
It seems to me that the political literature of the 1980-90s is so utterly unrelated to today, while the literature of one hundred years ago sounds like it was written yesterday.
My experience wrt the "male loneliness epidemic" is that so many of my male peers seem to see no purpose in socializing with anyone but a romantic partner. When I have gotten coworkers or acquaintances to hang out there's no interest in forming closer friendships
