The finalized HST rebate program, lower prices and elevated inventory have created favourable conditions for buyers. “After three consecutive months of positive momentum in the low-rise market, a pattern is emerging for new home sales in Ontario,” stated Justin Sherwood, BILD COO, adding that while the condominium market appears to have “come off the bottom,” changes to the HST rebate rules related to construction start and completion dates would help the sector recover more quickly. What is required in the next four years of the mayoral and council candidates who may be elected, is to take the long view and recognize that new housing is a pipeline that cannot be ratcheted up or down on demand. They also need to recognize that homebuilders are their partners in building the complete communities that #GTA residents live, work and play in, writes BILD President & CEO Dave Wilkes in the @TorontoStar.

Strong collaboration across all levels of government will help make housing easier to build and improve project viability, writes BILD President and CEO in @TheTorontoSun.

The Development Charge Reduction Program is a win-win. It allows municipalities to keep added costs on new homes low, improving viability and increasing supply, while at the same time still receiving the funding necessary to support growth and enhancing infrastructure within their regions, writes BILD President & CEO Dave Wilkes in the @TorontoStar.

If we do not use the Development Charge Reduction Program platform to permanently rightsize and modernize development charges, it will be a lost opportunity. It is for that reason that BILD has, and will continue to advocate, that we use the period of the next three years to address the challenge presented by these charges, writes BILD President and CEO Dave Wilkes in @TheTorontoSun.

BILD and the @OntarioHBA applaud the reduction of development charges in Toronto, announced today by @cityoftoronto Mayor @oliviachow , Premier of Ontario @fordnation Ford, and @gregorrobertson, Federal Minister of Housing and Infrastructure. Improving housing affordability means increasing supply and working in partnership.
Through our new housing supply legislation, we are supporting provincial and territorial efforts to get more homes built. In Ontario, that support will help make relief equal to the full 13% HST available on eligible new homes, saving homebuyers up to $130,000.

The @ONgov's recently announced tax rebate on new homes is already enticing buyers off the sidelines in and around the #GTA, especially for single-family properties. The full HST rebate will save new homebuyers as much as $130,000. “[Developers] sold more homes in the first couple of weeks of the HST announcement than they did in the previous three or four months combined,” Justin Sherwood, BILD COO, told @TheTorontoSun.
