MARATHON DISCUSSIONS
RWENZORI MARATHON Vs KABAKA RUN
some people meet me and ask me why everyone is starting a marathon? Clearly not everyone is starting a marathon?
Uganda has over a population of about 50m people and spends over ushs 5.5 trillion on health care.
Running helps fight diabetes, stress related diseases and reduces hospital visits hence reduces a nations health financial challenges.
MANY OF YOU SHOULD TAKE TIME AND READ ABOUT HOW PARK RUNS IN THE UK HAVE PLAYED A ROLE IN REDUCTION ON HEALTH EXPENDITURE.
As a country we need as many people as possible running, every town , city , village needs a running culture if possible so we borrow less for health related challenges.
RWENZORI MARATHON VS KABAKA RUN
Some people think we are in a competition and it’s something that comes up many times as I move on Kampala streets.
KABAKA RUN has over 130k runners and their formula works well, they don’t promise you world class standards like RWENZORI MARATHON does.
Those numbers are great for the sponsors or partners, people don’t have to fly from far away, people leave their homes same day and enjoy a run.
They aren’t blamed for the quality of accommodation, quality of transport, road closures, timing, quality of kits which include medals etc.
KAMPALA actually needs many runs, almost every weekend, there should be some sort of organized run. With a population of 4.6m, that’s great.
Yes, I know if out of 130k KABAKA RUN, 20k guys were foreigners, it would mean massive earnings for Kampala residents across board obviously.
I think it can be marketed internationally as is, people are told how it operates in advance so they don’t have massive expectations, it would be fun actually and we would make some new money.
RWENZORI MARATHON on the other hand, we have decided to be a world label marathon, that’s means we are subject to scrutiny. World standards must be adhered to.
If RWENZORI MARATHON was a local Kampala run, we wouldn’t need to market around the world throughout the year, would do a 2 months campaign and we would get over 20k runners.
International marketing isn’t only expensive but also strenuous but the ECONOMIC benefits to the country are crazy, we are just concluding on RWENZORI MARATHON IMPACT. Results are fully out next week.
We do for example around 29 activations around the world and the least expenditure is around ushs 50m for each. You keep following and see where we are going.
Early Results are showing that 70% of the runners and fans used the northern route to kasese, that’s Mubende, Fortportal route and enroute expenditure was ushs 500m just as an example.
The research was or is being done by MAKERERE UNIVERSITY, UN global pulse and one of the biggest Telcoms. You will love it.
The Gulu City Marathon team was on ground for the C2C @teammatooke run.
Respect to the team who showed up in full force.
The energy, the culture and the vibe.

HONORARY CONSUL - ANITA TAYEBWA
TOURISM
An honorary consul (also called an honorary consular officer) is a person appointed by a foreign government to represent that country in a host city or region, without being a full-time career diplomat. She was picked by the Bahamas!
Yesterday Hon @Thomas_Tayebwa invited me to join him and his wife Anita Tayebwa as she presented her papers to the minister of foreign affairs hon @adoniaayebare.
At first I thought, oh why did hon. @Thomas_Tayebwa actually invite me? I appreciated it better during the ceremony of Anita Tayebwa becoming a honorary consular.
I had taken time to read about the Bahamas before heading to Foreign affairs ministry. I don’t like speaking rubbish if asked to do so which they did.
ANITA TAYEBWA focused on TOURISM during her presentation and then it clicked why hon @Thomas_Tayebwa actually invited me. We are also friends for a long time.
Hon. @Thomas_Tayebwa has helped over the years when I have explained to him why UGANDA TOURISM BOARD should have more resources or even ministry of tourism.
Hon @Thomas_Tayebwa is one of the few leaders in Uganda who encourages leaders of other countries to visit Ugandas tourism attractions. Most Ugandan leaders don’t market Uganda at all.
For RWENZORI MARATHON he has brought in deputy speaker of Kenya’s parliement to run it, he encouraged current leader of Aga khan GROUP to run RWENZORI MARATHON and was going to come. Hopefully next year God willing.
THE BAHAMAS
The Bahamas receive over 12m TOURISTS in a year and TOURISM makes them over usd 5bn dollars a year.
Uganda with all our potential we get 1.6m mainly neighbors and earn close to usd 1.6bn only
And tourism earnings contribute 50% that country’s GDP with a population of only 405, 000 , yes only 405,000 and mostly high end American spenders.
The major attractions of The Bahamas range from luxury resorts and historic landmarks in the capital to pink-sand beaches and world-famous marine adventures.
The desire of Anita Tayebwa is for Uganda to learn from the Bahamas which I truly think so but we can also tap into their numbers which is the other target.
KING CEASOR MULENGA
I was also very impressed by king Ceasor Mulenga knowledge on TOURISM numbers and how UGANDA could simply survive and thrive on tourism given our potential.
Some people including class educated ones, think that tourism is about animals and only the WEKESAs due to limited exposure to what happens around the world.
It’s good listening to someone so exposed and so travelled who understands the bigger picture of tourism and its impact to nations. Many people need to listen to him talk about tourism.
To celebrate Uganda, we shall run this Independence Day.

There is more joy in giving than receiving.
Let’s come together and make a difference for Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Every penny counts, and every contribution—big or small—can help support and protect these incredible chimpanzees. Let’s make it happen. Every penny will help!

We appreciate road repairs but honestly why dig up all the roads in and out of Muyenga at once? Namuwongo, kisugu, Tank hill, Kalungi road, Bukasa kwegamba misuse.
Diversion can lead you to gated communities.
My gonja harvest and matooke. Things are getting a little better
