I had the privilege of participating in a high-level panel discussion on Land Access and Rights at the inaugural Acholi Real Estate & Infrastructure Conference today.

Organised by Knight Frank Uganda and held at the Acholi Inn in Gulu, the conference has brought together key stakeholders to discuss the future of real estate, infrastructure, and investment in Northern Uganda.

Drawing from landmark developments such as the Okello Galdino petition judgment, which strengthened customary land rights in the Acholi sub-region, I shared legal insights on land tenure security, investment frameworks, and pathways to sustainable development in post-conflict Northern Uganda.

It was encouraging to see strong emphasis placed on the fact that customary tenure is not incompatible with development. Meaningful conversations on responsible land governance remain critical to unlocking inclusive economic growth in the region.
