Leaked WhatsApps between ex-EU commissioner Reynders and senior Belgian spy reveal attempts to bury allegations of his possible Russia ties – EUobserver https://t.co/2MfQWNRvK6
I have read dozens of outraged posts because the US special envoy Witkoff called Putin a "humanist." But no one is writing about the fact that the American negotiators are simply not doing their job. Let me explain.
Peace negotiations are important in their own right. Even if they do not lead to a lasting peace, the process itself is an opportunity to resolve urgent humanitarian issues. If, of course, the human dimension is a priority for the negotiators. But it is entirely obvious that neither Witkoff nor Kushner cares about people's fates in this war.
The Pope calls on Putin to save thousands of people from starvation in occupied Oleshky and the surrounding villages. The UN speaks about a humanitarian catastrophe and asks Russia to allow the evacuation of the civilian population. European Parliament Vice-President Pina Picierno goes on a hunger strike to draw attention to this tragedy unfolding before the eyes of the whole world.
And what are Witkoff and Kushner doing?
That's right, almost nothing.
Except for passing along greetings from Putin’s aide to the First Lady.
Thousands of people are already eating grass to survive and begging to save their lives. The Ukrainian side raises the issue of Oleshky at every meeting. And I can name dozens of such urgent humanitarian issues off the top of my head where American negotiators must be proactive.
Trump’s peace negotiations have already gone down in history as the deadliest years for Ukraine’s civilian population since the start of the full-scale invasion.
I don’t know if anyone will remember the names of Witkoff and Kushner.
But history will certainly record how American negotiators, who had the opportunity to save a huge number of people, refused to raise uncomfortable questions before "humanist Putin."
According to security officials, pro-Russian and far-right social media accounts linked to previous disinformation campaigns have spread violent videos in an attempt to sow more chaos https://t.co/do9goC9A2l
Musk Ordered Starlink Slowdown which has led to Russians successfully killing innocent Ukrainian civilians.
Isn’t there a term for providing aid and comfort to our enemies? https://t.co/91YRfiYPHO
🇺🇸‼️🇪🇺 FT: The Trump administration has asked European countries to transfer some of their frozen Russian assets to a U.S.-controlled fund to restart peace talks. European delegates rejected the plan proposed by Witkoff and Kushner.
Same arrogant nonsense that led Putin to believe that this was going to be a 3 day war. Putin and Trump can play board games dividing the world all they want, but that’s not going to lead to any different outcome for Putin. He’s got himself a stalemate that Trump can’t help him with.
Tuberville: "Zelensky will play hardball, but you know what? He's not even a player in the game. Putin, President Trump, and the people on our side will make the final decision about Ukraine's future."
I first met the inspirational Marina Litvinenko at @Billbrowder Magnitsky Awards, and am so proud to be publishing her powerful memoir, A Life in Fragments, next month with @BloomsburyBooks
I met @JamisonFire shortly after joining @Billbrowder in 2010. Sergei #Magnitsky was working for Jamie in #Russia when he uncovered the massive tax crime that led to his murder. Jamie can now tell the story from his point of view. Congratulations on your new book Jamie !🎉🎉
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."
He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."
He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."
"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."
He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."
What's really behind @realDonaldTrump 's diesel deal with Putin, and what could it mean for Ukraine?
In the latest episode of #UkraineInsights, Sir @Billbrowder questions the motives behind the deal, explains why Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil refineries matter, and discusses how Europe can maintain pressure on Moscow even if Washington changes course.

Slovakia’s Fico may be cosying up to Putin, but I’m not so sure that he wants to repeat the electoral humiliation that Orban experienced as a result of Orban’s inexplicable intimacy with Putin. It’s not a vote winning strategy and in my opinion will limit how far Fico will go in this direction
Russian security services detain Swedish citizen in Pskov region
He is accused of planning acts of sabotage on Russian territory. The FSB claims that the man allegedly fought on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
While Z-bloggers like “Rybar” are being quietly returned to Russia, the country continues to take hostages.
Foreigners are a convenient tool for Russia to use to get its spies released.
Ukraine to resume strikes on Russian refineries, Zelenskyy says.
This is the most honest interview with Zelensky I’ve ever read. He drops all niceties about Trump and says it how it is. I don’t know how he held his tongue for so long.

This is the same FBI director who is tasked with protecting Russian dissidents in the US who have recently been revealed to be the subjects of a Russian assassination plot https://t.co/s3siFccJN4
It’s been a good week for Putin. First the Trump intervention to stop Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries and now this. For Ukraine to survive Europe needs to confiscate the €200 billion of frozen assets before May 2nd when the second round of French elections take place. If that doesn’t happen the money for Ukraine will dry up, Ukraine will fall and Europe will be at war with Russia.
Not a cent: Marine Le Pen vows to cut off support for Ukraine if she comes to power
The leader of France’s right-wing populists said that if she wins the election, she could end not only bilateral aid to Ukraine but also funding for Kyiv through joint EU programs.
Le Pen had previously promised to halt direct aid while maintaining some operational support and training for Ukrainian troops.
In an interview with the Financial Times, she said France could no longer afford such spending.
“We need to give Zelensky an honest warning: we can no longer do this,” Le Pen said.
She also pointed to the €90 billion EU loan, of which €18 billion would fall to France.
Le Pen also described Ukraine’s accession to the EU as “hara-kiri” for the bloc.
Freedom House reports that Russia, with under 2 per cent of the world's population, accounts for around 38 per cent of public Red Notices. Public notices are a fraction of the total, so nobody outside INTERPOL knows which state issues the most.
Congratulations to my dear friend @jamesbezan on the passage of C-219 in the House! Defining transnational repression + renaming sanctions legislation in honour of Sergei Magnitsky represent yet another step toward holding dictators and human rights abusers to account. Bravo!
