There is a popular saying in Mainland China: "能骗就骗" "if you can cheat, cheat". (ie cheat if you can get away with it). She obviously thought she could get away with it. Wrong.
No such saying exists in Taiwan or among the Chinese diaspora overseas. Traditional Chinese teaching under Buddhism and Confucianism is NOT to cheat.

@LoveMy7Wood Wrong. Mayor Olivia Chow (and Mark Carney) have NOT been "demonizing Israel and Zionism".
We Chinese-Canadians are majority Buddhists. Christianity is the #2 religion. We are NEUTRAL on the Jewish/Muslim conflict. We have nothing against the Jews.
@NorthBelle4@SueAnnLevy@MayorOliviaChow Absurd accusation against the mayor.
We Chinese-Canadians are majority Buddhists. Christianity is the #2 religion. We are NEUTRAL on the Jewish/Muslim conflict. We have nothing against the Jews.
According to the latest survey, a majority of Canadians (62%) agree with you to some extent. They want Canada to respond with its own counter-tariffs, split between matching the U.S. dollar for dollar (34%) or a more limited response (28%). Only a tiny minority of Canadians support making concessions (7%) to Trump.

@RochesterAsa@MarkJCarney This is confusing. The Americans (and Canadians) call the NFL and CFL "football" (American football). The English and most of the world call soccer "football".
Apparently, in Ireland and Australia, they call rugby "football".
@Dave_Eby@sarahkirby_yung I agree with 90% of the mayor's policies, except his obsession with bitcoin.
As Warren Buffett noted: "Unlike factories or farmlands, bitcoins produce nothing. Its only value derives from whatever the next investor (sucker) is willing to pay for it. Otherwise, it just sits there and has no long-term income streams."
Bitcoin does have 1 function: it helps criminals (eg drug dealers, corrupt officials, tax evaders) avoid leaving a paper trail with the banks. @scoopercooper
That is why we should increase the digital media tax on US mass media, even though the Trump administration wants it eliminated. We need the tax barrier to preserve our cultural identity.
By the way, my favourite channels are CBC, TVO and the Knowledge Network (in BC). So I am not brainwashed by American mass media, even without the digital media tax.
@WAC_Blackout@DavidGr06982126@MarkJCarney Speak for yourself. The overwhelming majority of Canadians do NOT want the US to take over, not the Liberals, not the Conservatives, and certainly not the NDPs.
A fringe minority wants to be annexed by the United States; they have an inferiority complex.
Using your theory that oceans protect us, our only existential threat is the United States, not Russia or China. All the more reason to acquire drones, not jets or bombers. We don't need long-range jet fighters or bombers when our enemy is right next door. Under the right circumstances, drones can take down jets or bombers.
With the US as a potential enemy, we need more drones, more landmines (for the 49th parallel), and more sniper rifles. With 1/9 of the population, we can never outmuscle the US (or China or Russia). However, we can adopt a porcupine strategy so that annexing us will be painful.
By the way, the US is unlikely to invade Canada because it is still a democracy, despite Pres. Trump. On the other hand, Russia and China are Communist Dictatorships; thus more dangerous and threatening to Cdn sovereignty and way of life.
Russia is NOT capable of "wiping Ukraine off the map", at least not with conventional weapons. Ukrainian drones at 1/100 the cost are destroying heavy, expensive Russian tanks, invincible in WWII but very vulnerable and ineffective now.
More than 30,000 Russian soldiers are getting killed off every month; Russia is running out of fighting-age young men.
Russia can start using its stockpile of nukes. But NATO members France and Britain also have nukes. And America has a bigger and stronger pile of nukes.
By initiating the usage of nuclear weapons, Russia will outage the civilized world, and may even lose the support of communist China. Bombing Ukraine with nuclear weapons will leave the very lands it seeks to acquire radioactive for generations.
Look how much damage Ukrainian drones are doing to Russia's infrastructure.
Iran is sending drones (with dynamite) to hit US bases & US allies in the region. The US is stopping some of them by sending up patriot missiles. Iranian drones cost a couple of thousand dollars; US patriot missiles cost a couple of million dollars. The cost differential is unsustainable, even for a rich country like the US.
F-35 is even more expensive, at a few billion dollars. Losing 1 would be catastrophic for a country's budget. At the same time, drones are more expandable and maneuverable.
@HomeI68981@GordonGChang It's the other way around. China's underground churches are the real churches. The Chinese communists control the state-sanctioned churches.

@JimBuxton1@Dave_Eby John Horgan was a reasonable and pragmatic man. He is not an ideologue who is stuck with past decisions no matter what. If new information shows he was wrong, he will change his mind. He will pivot to improve the province that he loved.
@joansview@timekeeper1999@kinsellawarren Most Chinese-Canadians are Buddhists. We are not anti-Semitic; we are NEUTRAL in the Jewish/Muslim conflict.
However, Muslims outnumber Jews 6 to 1 in T.O. That might explain the mayor's positions.
