Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with local members of the Wisconsin State Telecommunications Association.
We discussed ways in which telecommunications companies and the state can partner together to provide reliable broadband internet access to all Wisconsinites, especially those living in rural areas.
One of the proposed bills on the association’s priority list would exempt from income taxes any local, state, federal or tribal government funds used for broadband expansion projects. This would help allow providers to stretch their capital even further, put more fiber in the ground and connect more unserved customers.

Reliable broadband access is essential to improving health care outcomes in rural America. By expanding the reach of medical care through telehealth, broadband supported by the USF enhances health care across small-town America. #BroadbandBuiltToLast More: https://t.co/ftXCILhOVE
Rural communities with high broadband adoption rates and local providers see 213% higher business growth than those with low usage. With more demand for broadband, the USF keeps rural communities from falling behind. #BroadbandBuiltToLast https://t.co/nLrJmmW40j
How would rural consumers, efforts to keep investing in #BroadbandBuiltToLast and the viability of existing rural broadband networks be impacted by the loss of USF support? Find out below.
