Ugly Is Beautiful was a summer album for me back when it was released. I was 20 years old at the time, smoking pot almost every day and bumping Oliver Tree as a go-to.

I see so many creators, large and small, sharing their stories on how much of a loving, genuine, and kind person Oliver was. He recognized people for their unique talents and abilities, spanning beyond superficial judgement. He never shied away from showing his passion for humanity and collaborative thought. He brightened so many people’s lives by being himself unapologetically.

It bothers me to no end that the most ambitious and caring of us leave the world too soon, but his positive impact is undoubtedly felt throughout the globe.

Rest in peace, Alien Boy. You gave me a fuckton of strength to be me in some shitty times, and I couldn’t have asked for a better influence.
