The 19-year-old East German border guard Konrad Schumann is tasked with patrolling the construction site of the Berlin Wall.
He realizes that this could be his last chance to escape communism and jumps to freedom in Western Berlin
People always flee communism
Itโs ridiculous that the $60 billion investment Disney claims is going to parks & experiences but is mostly going overseas-not the domestic parks. Disney needs new blood on the board. @RestoringMagic
People have been critical of Jay's performance as parks Chairman and, while there are valid criticisms...
It completely misses the point.
He's NOT vying for his prior Chairman role, nor is he attempting to become the CEO or President, or any executive management position.
He's specifically vying for a Board seat, in place of either Michael B. Froman or Maria Elena Lagomasino.
Can anyone confidently say that we don't need at least a LITTLE BIT of additional scrutiny when it comes to the rubber stamp the board has provided these CEOs up until now?
Even if the animosity towards Rasulo stems from his parks experience... Can any of us confidently say that the experience at the parks has incontrovertibly IMPROVED since his departure in 2015, or when he swapped roles to become CFO in 2009?
What parks experience do Lagomasino or Froman even possess? The answer, NONE.
But don't worry, if we need a government bureaucrat, we know where to find him. I'm sure Lagomasino is qualified in the financial space, and so is Rasulo along with a myriad of Disney-specific experience, having worked at the company for 29 years (longer than Iger has).
For the last few years, the majority of profit generated for the company has stemmed SOLELY from the parks division... Yet all of us on here are more frustrated with the Disney park experience than we ever have been, all while the board has LACKED anyone with ANY parks experience, whatsoever for almost a decade.
If he does get a board seat, everyone in management remains....
Yet we're going to deny him one because WDW's New Fantasyland would have been different or because Disneyland Paris, a bad investment by the company at the outset with systemic issues far beyond his control, hasn't performed like Disney's other parks?
Is that why Eisner AND Iger kept promoting him up to the point that the latter recognized him as a potential CEO successor?
Wake up, grow up.
This company is on the brink (lowest national approval rating ever recorded on the top five most polarizing companies, stock has recently hit a 14-year low, a stagnant parks product in the face of RAPIDLY growing competition, a creative engine that's stalled with flop after flop, and a DTC product that has NEVER been profitable and is actively weighing the entire company down) and here's someone, who has dedicated his life to the company, willing to dedicate even more of it to help course-correct.
He would scrutinize proposals brought to the board, offer advice, and vote Y or N representing shareholder interests. Even if he voted NO on every proposal simply out of spite, Iger still has 10 other handpicked seats to drive his proposals forward.
So with that being said, the bigger question then becomes... Why is Disney so DEAD SET on denying him a seat at all? ๐ค
.@RestoringMagic's Town Hall was FANTASTIC.
From Rasulo & Peltz's EXCELLENT responses & the cases made, it was a master class in how to sell your vision.
As @ValliantRenegad said, even the presentation was better than Disney has EVER put on for financial-related engagement.
I'll believe Disney's going to invest at Walt Disney World only once they oil the Magic Carpets ride which has been screeching at guests for years. This company is not run by serious people and I refuse to entertain their delusions. They're victims of past successes, little more.
