On this day in 1774: Rev Henry Duncan was born in Lochrutton. When minister in Ruthwell, he noticed his poorest parishioners struggling financially. In 1810, he founded the world's first commercial savings bank which enabled working people to deposit small sums and earn interest.
They're arresting Quakersfor terrorism and allowing these Primark Ponces to march in uniform, a crime.
We banned political uniforms in 1936, and this is definitely a political uniform.
When is the COBR meeting?
First President of Ireland was a protestant.
Most prestigious trophy in Gaelic Football named in honour of a protestant, Sam Maguire.
We Republicans don't obsess over people's preferred method of worshipping god.
If this is protecting women...

He also allegedly hurt the woman's daughter when she tried to intervene.

The last survivor of the transatlantic slave trade was not identified until 2020 , eighty years after she died.
She was two years old when she was taken. She lived to 1940. She wore her hair in Yoruba style her entire life, in rural Alabama, where everyone could see it.
Matilda McCrear.
She came on the Clotilda, the last slave ship to reach America, in 1860 — fifty-two years after the trade had been outlawed, on a bet between rich men.
She arrived with her mother and sister. They were separated from the rest almost immediately.
She grew up picking cotton. She had fourteen children. She lived with a white German-born man for decades in a state where that was not legally possible, and she refused to take his name.
And in 1931, at about seventy-three, she walked into a courthouse in Selma and filed a claim for compensation for having been enslaved.
She was refused. It was reported in the local paper as a curiosity.
She died in 1940 and was buried in an unmarked grave, and for eighty years nobody knew who she had been — until a researcher in England found the 1931 claim in a newspaper archive and started pulling the thread.
She kept her hair the way her mother had done it. For eighty years, on a cotton farm in Alabama, in plain view.
That was her whole statement, and it took us until 2020 to read it.
This Victorian bathtub combined a bath, shower and body-spray system in a single unit.
Produced by Shanks & Co. of Barrhead, Scotland, the “Independent Plunge, Spray and Shower Bath” was designed to stand without a separate wooden enclosure. Its cast-iron tub was paired with a curved spray section, overhead shower and integrated plumbing fittings.
Versions of Shanks’ combined spray baths were already being exhibited in the 1880s, while illustrated sanitary catalogues around 1900 showed increasingly elaborate decorated models like this one.
If I were prime minister of country where 440,000 children sleep on the floor because they do not have a bed of their own, abolition of inheritance tax would not be my flagship policy

In 2015 David Cameron privatised the National Fostering Agency, it's now being paid £160m a year straight to a New Jersey tax haven to manage the fostering of just 2,616 children
A tax free profit of £61,000 per child, and they don't even provide any care, that's the fosters job
Scotland definitely won’t vote Tory, but if people from another country vote for them our parliament will have powers taken away without our say.
Explain how democracy in Scotland works again?
Andy Burnham's social care plan for England doesn't include people under 65 but the Scottish scheme does.
Early prisoner release in England includes men convicted of domestic violence but the Scottish scheme doesn't.
The BBC doesn't always give the full picture.
I think it’s important to remind everyone who the right choose to idolise:
• Tommy Robinson: 2 active charges — harassment causing fear of violence / 11+ convictions — assault, fraud, stalking, false passport & contempt
• Russell Brand: 7 active charges — rape, sexual assault & indecent assault
• Danny Tommo: 8 active charges — harbour offences, harassment, trespass, criminal damage & PIN refusal / 1+ conviction — attempted kidnapping
• Andrew Tate: 42 active charges — rape, trafficking, ABH, controlling prostitution, child-image offences & extreme pornography
• Tristan Tate: 17 active charges — rape, trafficking, ABH & sexual assault
It’s also important to note that all five of these men have publicly embraced religion in recent years.
NEW: An amateur film historian and writer has discovered evidence that the world’s first ever feature film was in fact recorded and premiered in Scots and not in English 🚨
This is a screen grab from Till the Bells Ring (1926), the lost Scottish film
We spoke to Marc David Jacobs about how he discovered the film – and why but he had to spend over three years fighting to have his discovery acknowledged 👇
Scotland did NOT colonise Jamaica.
The first recorded Scots arrived on 1656 when Oliver Cromwell banished 1,200 Scottish POW’s to Jamaica as 'forced labour' & indentured servants.
After annexation in 1707 Scots gained access to trade within English colonies.
Lesson over.
A short photo essay about Bradford in 1970. Before them bloody Pakistanis came and spoilt it all with their home improvements, vibrant businesses and tasty food. The bastards 😡
A ship passing the remains of the Lang Dyke opposite Dumbarton Rock. While many people will be unfamiliar with it, the Lang Dyke is perhaps Glasgow's most important bit of engineering as it was instramental in creating a navigable channel up the Clyde.
