Are you fucking KIDDING me??
One of Canada’s largest MAGA owned papers isn’t even to be subtle with this disgusting un-patriotic false headline right before #CanadaDay2025
Don’t buy @TheTorontoSun or any media owned by America.
We must protect our sovereignty. #Cndpoli 🇨🇦💪🏻
Uncertainty is magic, not a problem to be broken down and controlled.
But in Canada, we try to manage it with structure: boards, grant programs, job titles. We hire “community leaders” after the magic has already started, then expect them to guide it.
That’s not leadership. That’s cleanup.
Brad Feld’s “Give First” philosophy is a reminder that real momentum comes from people who show up before they’re paid, before there’s a clear outcome. People who give because they care, not because they were hired to.
That’s the disconnect I wrote about in the $100B piece: we reward institutions with prestige, while the people who help founders in the earliest days get no upside - no equity, no carry, no path.
And yet, there’s hope.
Toronto Tech Week showed what’s possible when we loosen control. Distributed, grassroots, electric. Builders leading from the front.
And this fall, Waterloo Tech Week is picking up that torch — a student-led, decentralized celebration of what makes the region great. No gatekeepers. Just energy.
If we want the next $100B to stay here, we have to stop confusing hierarchy with leadership.
We have to embrace uncertainty. Trust the people already building. And make room for the magic.
@nationalpost This is a US rag attempting to get Canadians to spend their money there. I'm sticking to countries that don't praise a rapist, a thief, and a nazi all rolled up in one orange sack of crap.
🇨🇦Hey ladies,
I promised to share @PierrePoilievre's costed platform details, released today, to highlight any support for women's health, prevention of gender-based violence, support for child care, and support for economic opportunities for women (all priorities within @MarkJCarney's plan).
Some fast facts...if I missed anything, I know you'll tell me 😉.
Poilievre's plan is weak for Canadian women (and, yes, I've searched all 30 pages so I didn't miss anything). Oh, and don't even get me started on his commitment to defund the CBC.
He has one mention of tougher crimes for anyone accused of gender-based violence (good). However, the focus is not on prevention, but on tougher sentences after the fact.
That's it. That's all. It's like women and kids don't exist.
Moreover, I realize many high-profile tech / AI leaders in Canada want Poilievre to win...I don't get this at all.
Between his inability to engage in an intelligent conversation about AI in a recent podcast episode (The Knowledge Project) and his lack of focus on our tech / AI industries and infrastructure, his government-only work experience is blazingly apparent, as if he has missed the tech / AI revolution of the past decade (and he is oblivious to the threats coming from our southern border).
What are some of his top 15 priorities in the opening remarks of his costed plan? He plans to bring back plastic straws, remove health labels, and cut down on produce packaging (see below).
This is an unserious plan.
I know, I know, some of you will yell at me on X for the next 24 hours, but please don't dismiss what I'm seeing with my own two eyes and hearing with my own two ears.
Poilievre's priorities include:
**Scrap the Liberal plastics ban, including the ban on straws, grocery bags, food containers,
cutlery, and other single-use plastics
**End new labelling requirements for natural health products
**Axe the planned food packaging tax on fresh produce
**We will save by defunding the CBC
It’s been a challenging week for everyone and I’ve done my best to give you a wide range of assessments because that’s my job now.
If you’re looking for a really good practical assessment this is the one. Scott Galloway on The View. He brings it down to no nonsense kitchen table impacts that everyone can understand.
