@CallofJ@GJN27__@AvengersUpdated "Knee deep". Kang wasnt cast until 2020. And even if he was in 2019 thatd be the same year disney got the rights backs to doom so they couldve used him if they wanted to. And in this hypothetical world you mentioned where Thanos replaced kang, would also be seen as stupid
@CallofJ@GJN27__@AvengersUpdated Disney had the rights to doom in 2019 so they couldve used him but chose not to initially. Interchanging them is dumb because that means A) the plot is so thin that you can change the big bad at the 11th hour and B) you wasted our time setting up a villain we wont see again
@ProphecyGay@S1531110S@AvengersUpdated If IW is "set up" then by that logic you don't really need to see the other movies when you actually do if you wanna feel the satisfaction of thanos's role. The time stone in doc strange for example is a great set up fot thanos using it infinity war, which is a payoff
@ProphecyGay@S1531110S@AvengersUpdated Unless the mcu is going to forever take place on battleworld he is obviously gonna lose. IW was payoff. It paid off the anticipation of thanos's arrival, the infinity stones, tonys fear of extraterrestrial threats, the fallout of civil war, gamoras relationship with thanos etc
@one_in_emiliohn@AvengersUpdated Thanos showed up at the end of the Avengers. Anyone who had curiosity asked a nerd friend, or looked up online who he was and the only thing that wouldve come up in every conversation or Google search wouldve been Infinity Gauntlet
@ProphecyGay@S1531110S@AvengersUpdated Thanos lost after years of build up. Dooms gonna lose after only having build up in one movie. His name nor presence has been in the multiverse saga unlike Thanos whos had years of appearances and underlying presence in the Infinity saga. IW was not buildup it was a payoff
@ProphecyGay@S1531110S@AvengersUpdated You could slot in the beyonder or molecule man as the big bad and the "setup" would still make sense. Thats how lackluster the "setup" material has been. Compare that to thanos who literally cant be replaced because hes already been mentioned and appeared several times before IW
@ProphecyGay@S1531110S@AvengersUpdated In FF hes just creepy and we learn nothing about him. In a perfect world doomsday would be the payoff to dooms build up. Instead doomsday and secret wars are both the build and payoff which is dumb. As soon as we see doom form and execute his plan hes gonna lose in the next movie
@one_in_emiliohn@AvengersUpdated The info on the Infinity stones became known to everyone who was watching the mcu from avengers 1 all the way to Thor ragnarok. Those years of the general audience learning that info is part of why endgame and IW were more anticipated than any mcu film before it
@nee2054@GJN27__@AvengersUpdated Idk if you know anything about kang but part of what makes him a fun villain, & more importantly different from thanos, is that hes a weak villain who comes back after every defeat. Kang dynasty was supposed to be him learning from his losses and winning. Thats a good villain arc
@BloodNose391646@morrisonmorri14@AvengersUpdated The infinity stones characterize thanos though. We know hes the most dangerous guy in the universe in guardians and the fact that he wants the stones and commands the galaxys biggest armies tells us about how his power, ambitions, influence, and looming threat to the mcu
@DarrickWithnA@morrisonmorri14@AvengersUpdated Spider-Mans relationship with Tony is important to his arc in IW and Endgame. Black panther, honestly you can skip. The only thing it really establishes as "necessary" for IW is the wakanda setting which doesnt really impact anyone's development
@404supe You say that as if a villain whos mysteriously collecting the universe's most powerful objects from the shadows across several films is not an intriguing set up compared to doom whose name hasnt even been said yet
@morrisonmorri14@AvengersUpdated Wanda and spider man supposedly aren't even in doomsday and even if they were their trauma and relationships probably won't impact the plot. But guess we'll see. Same goes for the ancient tech you mentioned. And xmen characters who have nothing to do with doom is not setup
@nee2054@GJN27__@AvengersUpdated You cant retcon kang being the guy whos been running the multiverse. And if they did, that'd be really stupid. Thatd be like thanos being switched out for annihilus as the villain of infinity war
@morrisonmorri14@wynn728@AvengersUpdated There is literally zero narrative weight to that fact going into doomsday. There just isnt one, and now theres just gonna be one. Yay.
