@GaryRGrayJr I was raised by my grandmother. My mom was a single parent. Grandma whooped us. She fed us. She helped us. She taught us how to work. She scared me when I was little. She was the strongest person I ever knew. She died this summer at 97 years old. Her legacy lives through me.
I spend every single minute of my day assisting parents and students with their at home learning each day. At the same time, I am receiving notification after notification that my own six children (doing 95% of their work alone) are failing ALL assignments. I hate that feeling.
My oldest daughter is a really heavy sleeper. She asks me to wake her up before I go to sleep so she can go to the bathroom. Tonight, I'm feeling like a decent dad because she just told me she loves seeing how excited I am to see her when I wake her up before I go to bed. <3
Usually when I'm watching @CashNastyGaming in the evenings I skip the commercials real quick. Tonight...no skip here. How is this Kobe challenging us to be better when he has been gone for months? https://t.co/WPin9JmVLl

This summer...15,000 steps per day because I was so active around the house. Eight days back on campus for remote instruction...averaging about 500 steps per day (my coffee maker is about fifteen steps from my desk so my 8 cups a days account for half of these steps).
Today my team met to make heavy decisions that will impact the lives of 150 students, their families, their teachers, and the teachers' families. Emotions ran high. I am proud of us. We had a difficult yet honest and respectful discussion. We are stronger today than yesterday. <3
I can't for the life of me figure out why I'm spending my Sunday evening looking at emails from my children's teachers about missing assignments and failing grades. Why, oh why, teachers are you pounding away at families and students like this? It just doesn't feel right to me.
I thought I was rocking remote teaching and improving my craft a tiny bit each day. This evening I discovered my final video of today's math lesson was a blooper video--4 seconds of me making a weird face, fixing my mustache, and then realizing I didn't like my look. Sigh.
Oh, the irony of planning growth mindset lessons whilst spending HOURS figuring out how to stop being a techno-caveman. Teachers and their students (and families) right now are the epitome of "The Power of Yet". I'm confident we will get there!
Hope in tomorrow is power today.
Dear teachers, protect your emotional and mental health. That list of to-dos will still be there tomorrow. Stop neglecting your spouse, your kids, your self. This career will chew up every bit of you. Go home. Be home. You will be a better teacher for it. I promise.
Read. Think about it. Share. I'm going to DEFINITELY be using these explanations moving forward. Succinctly broken down for us by @davidekirkland Thank you. #CARBTE

You, before: โThere is only one race... the HUMAN race.โ
You, now: โWhile race is a social construct, I understand that systemically and societally, people are treated differently based on the race they are. I cannot deny the privilege or the problems that come with oneโs race.
i am so tired of white people getting ribbons for doing minimal work when it comes to race. i am not impressed by your bookshelves, PD calendar, or student photos.
talk to me about how you interrupt when we ainโt in the room - when your credibility and access is on the line
@jthompedu I have been proud to see so many former students being fearless as they voice not only their opinions about why they care about ending racism, but also challenging their friends and family to join them in that movement.
To my white educators: Today, youโre posting about social justice, buying antiracist books, following brown folks, and temp changing your profile pictures. (thread)
Hereโs what I need you to do tomorrow:
โBecoming more systemically aware means understanding the kinds of racism that shape our communities, schools, and classrooms, and where we stand in relation to those social forces.โ
