But taking the original quote literally…I’d say that a “great” kid with “rubbish” teacher will get *much* better grades than “rubbish” kid with “great” teacher. So, the kid/background matters more than school & therefore accounts for over 50% of the variation. ~84%!

But a higher set class gets grade 8s with me and 9s with you. Again, school has huge impact. But variation in kids plays the largest role in attainment, right?

I’ve interpreted that from my idea (explained many times) of what speed means in this Q. If speed means what I described it as, then we conclude the plane cannot move or take off. Not the same.

Like when people talk about “having the gene for” something. They mean allele. But we know what they mean when they say “gene” so it’s fine to be charitable.

I’ve seen people (like me) saying the plane won’t move - not that the Q *requires* it not to move. How do they infer that?! Have defo seen lots of spurious rationale though.
