A few years ago, I met a man who truly loved me, and I loved him too. Everything was going well until he introduced me to his family.

His mother disliked me from the very beginning. Nothing I did was ever good enough. She would complain about everything. She even told her son repeatedly that he could never marry me.

Whenever I cooked, she refused to eat my food. I still remember the day her son told her, “You’re missing out, Riken is a good cook.” Her response? “So Riken cooks better than me?” 😂

If we were going out together, she made sure I never sat in the front seat. She would deliberately get there before me. 😂

His father and some of his siblings accepted me, but his mother never did. Her reason was simple—we were from different tribes.

For over a year, I prayed, hoped, and tried my best, but nothing changed. Eventually, I realized I couldn’t spend the rest of my life competing with his mother for acceptance. He was her first and favorite son, and I knew that battle would never end.

As painful as it was, I walked away.

My advice? If a man’s family, especially his mother strongly rejects you from the beginning and there’s no sign of change, don’t ignore it. Love alone cannot sustain a marriage where you’re constantly fighting for acceptance.
