Universal Income = Enslavement. I find it amazing how so many people can’t see what is happening. The problem is you don’t understand their long term plans.

I hate to say it folks but I think sports as a whole may have peaked. Everything about sports just feels so forced and unnecessary, a desperate attempt for a private equity firm to squeeze more juice from the lemon. You have college football who is going to expand to a 24 team playoff, getting rid of the most unique thing about college football; its regular season. But these people aren’t college football people, they are tv executives and investors. They could care less about the sustainability of the sports and the tradition of it, they only care about turning a profit.

The MLB playoff have begun and if you are between the ages of 22 and 65, you probably haven’t seen much of them because they are all on during the day. A MLB playoff game started at 2 PM Eastern on a Tuesday. This is 11 AM Pacific. Why? Because NBC has to be the only network that can air the Wild Card round, so they need triple headers to be able to get all of the games in. Atlanta and Philly are heading into a game 3 and didn’t even know what time they were playing til about midnight last night because of conflicts with other games and network availability. Corporate greed has completely botched the MLB playoffs so far in order to keep all the games on NBC.

It feels as if sports have peaked across the board. We’ve gotten to a point where it’s impossible for fans to care more than they have before, spend more than they have before, or watch more than they have before. Every consumer situation has an infliction point, where the capacity of the consumer is maxed out. The product has to back off in order to not burn out the customer and keep them engaged enough to have them invested long term while they back off and recharge short term.

I believe that is where America is with sports now. It currently demands too much of us on a daily basis and has ruined the reasons that we have fallen in love with it. Maybe we all just need a break…

What's crazy is the statistic "We haven't built any _____ in America in 40 years" and it's true of almost any category, whether nuclear power plants, military bases, aircraft carriers, etc.. Everything was allowed to rot after the 1970s. The University of North Texas, a taxpayer-funded public university, had a contract with an international recruiting company that paid a commission for every student it successfully enrolled.

$3,000 for an overseas student enrolling full-time.
$1,500 for an international transfer already in the U.S.

The $3,000 was explicitly tied to enrollment: $1,500 after the first semester and another $1,500 after the second.

And this wasn’t necessarily illegal. The federal rules restricting enrollment-based recruiting commissions contain an exception covering certain foreign students abroad who aren’t eligible for federal student aid.

UNT’s contract was written specifically around that category.

By Fall 2024, UNT reported 7,509 international students. 73% were from India.

UNT receives hundreds of millions of dollars in public funding while also paying commissions to recruit international students.

The question now is:

How widespread is commission-based international student recruiting across American universities, and how much money is being paid to these recruiters?

I genuinely do not understand why anyone would take the job of Secretary of the Treasury or Chairman of the Federal Reserve at this point.

And I don't mean that as some cheap shot about the people currently occupying those positions. I mean I genuinely do not understand what you are supposed to do if you inherit the fiscal and monetary disaster that America is gradually slipping into.

When Volcker raised rates in the 80s, that strengthened the dollar, which killed foreign economies in Latin America that were heavily indebted in dollars. And he was able to get away with it because the Fed was essentially sucking demand out of the market by destroying the economies that had become overindebted in our currency.

In a way, Mexico essentially paid for us to solve our inflation crisis because Mexicans chose to take on debt in a currency they had no control over.

At the time, this wasn't an issue at home because our debt to GDP was something like 31%. So even though we blew out interest expense, there was so little of it that it didn't really matter. Instead, the slowdown in bank lending had a much bigger effect than the increase in new debt.

Now fast forward to today and bank lending isn't what's driving inflation at all. What's driving it are these huge untouchable Federal deficits that are going almost entirely to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. And these things are either fully or partially indexed to inflation.

So when the Fed looks around and says "We have high inflation and we need to increase interest rates," they can certainly crush huge swaths of the economy and plunge the rest of the world into an economic crisis like the one that befell Latin America in the 80s, but when you have over 100% debt to GDP, you blow out the deficit interest expense by an even bigger amount than whatever you're able to squeeze out of the private sector.

And every time they increase interest rates, the Boomers who are already cash rich essentially get a state-mandated raise in addition to a larger Social Security check, which is precisely the thing driving the deficits in the first place!

So over time, more and more and more money gets sucked up by those who draw the largest checks from the Federal budget. And they take that money and go out and spend more, which ends up defeating the whole purpose of trying to quell inflation with interest rate hikes in the first place.

Meanwhile, working Americans and entire sovereign nations like Japan undergo essentially a depressionary event as they get crushed first by high rates and then by inflation.
